OCT Scanning for Skin Cancer

What Does Skin Cancer Scanning Do?

Where during an initial skin examination our doctors find suspected skin cancer, we can offer an Optical Coherence Tomography Scan. Using this device it is now possible to more effectively diagnose a vast range of superficial skin cancers on the spot.

These cancers can include:

  • Bowen's disease, which is early squamous cell cancer and also

  • Superficial basal cell carcinoma

Enhanced Skin Cancer Diagnosis & Management

By using the VivoSight OCT technology as part of our diagnostic and treatment care plan we offer patients a higher level of confidence that any irregular skin cell activity is managed using state-of-the-art diagnosis technology.

This enhanced comfort level is also combined with a needle-free treatment pathway with absolute certainty of clearance.

Pain Free Treatment

Patients can proceed to Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) which basically is a no-needle technique. With PDT we can activate that with a single flash from an IPL laser or some simple device with the appropriate wavelength

Optical Coherence Tomography allows for an effective and painless activation normally it is extremely painful

Improved Skin Management

Aftercare is more successful as well.

The patient returns for reviews at appropriate intervals for up to 2 months. During which complete clearance of the superficial lesion can be confirmed.

Also, prior scans can be directly compared scans more recent scans to make sure any skin cancer has been treated.

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) Concerns

The biggest concern with Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) for the treatment of superficial skin lesions is that the cancer clearance is complete because either:

  • All superficially invasive areas are covered, and/or

  • Skin cancer may not be responsive to superficial treatments.

By using the VivoSight OCT device, you can be certain absolutely that clearance has been achieved.
